Ellison
Selected work
Twelve frames · 2019–2026
Ellison makes photographs about movement, weather and the moment just before something happens.
Based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, Ellison has spent the better part of a decade photographing dancers, ceremonies and the wilder edges of the New Zealand coast. The work sits somewhere between documentary and portrait — patient, quiet, and unhurried, always waiting for the frame to arrive rather than forcing it.
Commissions have taken the practice from black-sand beaches on the west coast to marae, editorial studios and the occasional wedding marquee in a southerly. Every project starts with a conversation and a walk, and ends with a considered edit — never a memory card dumped into a folder.
